This year, the Conference of Grand Masters of North America (COGMNA) is being held in Rapid City, South Dakota. The Grand Master, Deputy Grand Master, Grand Secretary and several other Grand Lodge Officers are there representing the Grand Lodge of DC. They also had a quick break from the conference to do a little sightseeing at Mount Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Memorial! Also below are the group pictures from the main conference of Grand Masters and the Conference of Grand Secretaries.
On February 7, our Grand Master, Most Worshipful Brother Charbel T. Fahed, traveled to William R. Singleton-Hope-Lebanon Lodge No. 7 to present Worshipful Brother Richard C. Chandler with the Daniel Carter Beard Scouter Award from the Boy Scouts of America for his work with his son’s Cub Scout pack.
To honor Masons who have gone above and beyond in their service to scouting, the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania developed the Daniel Carter Beard Award in 2001, named after one of the founders of the Boy Scouts. Seeing how popular the award was, Boy Scouts of America expanded it to an international award that could be used to honor any Masonic scouting volunteer belonging to a regular Grand Lodge.
A Past Master of Singleton Lodge, Worshipful Brother Chandler has served as Treasurer of his Lodge, led the works and lectures committee, served as Assistant Grand Lecturer on several different occasions, and currently serves as the Treasurer of the Singleton Masonic Temple Association. Concurrently, Worshipful Brother Chandler has been there to help his son’s Pack with their camping trip, meetings, activities, and serving as treasurer of the Pack. The award was presented by Most Worshipful Bro. Fahed, Right Worshipful Brother George Stoklas our Grand Treasurer, and Worshipful Bro. Jason Lebowitz, Master of Singleton Lodge No. 7. The award includes a neck medallion, a scouter patch, and a certificate.
This was the first Daniel Carter Beard Award presented in the Grand Lodge of the District of Columbia in over a decade. Worshipful Brother Chandler joins Worshipful Brothers William Lyons of Potomac Lodge No. 5 and Dale Hamby of Fraternity Lodge No. 54 as recipients in the Grand Lodge of the District of Columbia.
Singleton Lodge thanks Mr. Donald Kilgore of the National Capital Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America for his work in approving the award, Most Worshipful Brother Jeffrey D. Russell and the office of the Grand Secretary for their work in facilitating the award and Brother Thomas R. Labagh, Past Master and his staff at the Pennsylvania Masonic Youth Foundation for running this program.
