The Grand Master, along with the SGIG of the DC Scottish Rite and officers from Benjamin B. French Lodge No. 15 were on hand at the House of the Temple yesterday to participate in the presentation of a historic sword originally given by Benjamin B. French to Albert Pike in 1861, which was recently purchased at auction by Freemasons from Louisiana.
The ceremonial sabre was originally presented to Brigadier General Albert Pike of the Confederate Army by Benjamin B. French, the Commissioner of Buildings for the Federal Government of the United States at the time. Both were also prominent Freemasons in the District.
During the short presentation, the Grand Master spoke of the historical significance of the sword noting that the underlying message of friendship and brotherhood during a tumultuous time in U.S. history that is represented by the sword was much more significant.
